| Scott Brooks Assistant Professor Office: Watkins Hall 1215
Biography: Professor Brooks is concerned with how people go about meeting the demands of daily life and how they make sense of themselves and the world in which they live. He does fieldwork and gathers data intimately by observing, listening, participating, and taking on the role of his subject(s). Professor Brooks’ dissertation is based on his experiences coaching young black men in South Philadelphia for four years. His work describes the young men’s transition from playing streetball to more formal and organized basketball and the path and use of networks by some to become known, or publicly recognized, basketball players. Professor Brooks’ current project explores the social contours of race, class, and gender in the life of an inner city adult male. More Information |
